I have been working on setting up a website for the project. And although wordpress is a helpful tool to set up a decent website for the project but a lot goes into setting up a website. Thankfully Marisa is around to help me setup the wordpress site.

Currently, we have been editing and re-editing the documentary. We’re just about to finish the whole thing, and can’t wait to breathe a sigh of relief. We have been working on this project for the last six months now. And I am really thankful to Vivek Shah and The Cutting Crew team for all the help they have provided in making this documentary possible.

Istling at work

Istling spent the last day of 2012 by going around town, in search of some useful footage for the documentary. Over our phone conversation last night, he wasn’t sounding too kicked about the footage we had for the opening sequence of the documentary. So he set out with the camera for more footage.

I have spent almost the entire week trying to finish coloring the boxes and it‘s still not done. I haven’t taken an actual break even during the winter break.

Today I finished making the 9 boxes in the wood shop. I wanted to get it done before the winter break starts so that I could finish coloring the boxes during the break.

I got injured while working at the wood shop yesterday. Even though I was being very careful, but i guess, that wasn’t careful enough.

I have been working in the woodshop for the past 2 days.

It’s quite exciting to be able to use the different tools out there. I think the use of technology over manually creating all of these wooden peices, quite explains the transformation that the truck decoration industry in India is experiencing.

Started work on the boxes

I have to make 9 such pieces for the exhibition. I had to work in the woodshop to get the wooden planks cut into smaller pieces. Seems like I might be spending the next few weeks working in the wood shop connecting these pieces to make boxes.

I used the smaller wood pieces to get the designs etched onto them.

Visit to Lowes

I have had to visit Lowes a couple of times in the past week to research about the best possible wood for my next project. Yesterday I finally bought a large plank of MDF. I was really very impressed by the machine they use for cutting large wooden planks, at Lowes.

3D prototype

Since the trucks in India look different from the American ones, I tried to find a small prototype of an Indian truck for me to able to display it in my exhibition. But I couldn’t find one anywhere I went while my research trip in India.

After getting back to the University, I realized that I could probably make a small prototype just by using a 3D software and a 3D printer.

So, in the last couple of weeks, I created a 3D model of an Indian truck, and printed out a small prototype. Well, do have a look at it at the exhibition.
